Teaching at Scarborough & District Contract Bridge Club

New beginner's classes begin on Wednesday 12th January 2005 at 2pm

Scarborough & District Contract Bridge Club makes a determined effort to introduce new participants to our sport. We provide classes and practice sessions for beginners and the less experienced player.

Classes are run by Jeff Scott and Vicky Hirst, both of whom have been playing Bridge for over 20 years. The classes are held every Wednesday from 2pm to 4pm and both beginners and less experienced players are invited to attend.

Fees for the classes are £3 per session, which includes tea or coffee. In addition an annual registration fee of £10 is required. Registration entitles class members entry to the Thursday evening session at normal member rates

Both Vicky and Jeff try to make the classes as informal and friendly as possible and hope that their love of the game of Contract Bridge is passed on to to the class members.

A practice session is held every Wednesday morning for improvers. This is hosted by Margaret Ingham and takes place from 10am to 12pm.

A Duplicate Pairs match is played for real. However, Margaret and other experienced members of the club are on hand to give help and advice throughout the session.

All are welcome and everyone is guaranteed a game. Fees for the Wednesday morning session are £1.50 and again this includes tea or coffee.

Vicky Hirst

For those improvers who wish to get their teeth into competitive Bridge, the Individual Handicap Competition is held every Thursday evening from 7pm. Vicky Hirst hosts this session, in which players are encouraged to play with different partners, including experienced members of the club.

Handicaps are given to each competitor, depending on their experience, so everyone has a chance of winning the trophy. Only the first two matches with any one partner count towards the final rankings for this competition. In this way, players are encouraged to broaden their knowledge by being given the chance to partner more experienced players.

Fees for the Thursday evening session are £2 and again, tea or coffee is included.
